Lydia McMahon provided the spark for the top-ranked Cate girls volleyball team in a 25-7, 25-15, 25-9 sweep over Santa Clara in a Frontier League match on Tuesday.
“Everything she did tonight raised the team intensity level; she had a great match,” Cate coach Greg Novak said of McMahon. She served six aces and had four kills and hit .444 with no hitting errors.
Delaney Mayfield led the Cate attack with 12 kills. Maddie Becker and Peyton Shelburne each had six hills and Xandrine Griffin added four.
“We played pretty well tonight; we looked pretty smooth,” said Novak.
The Rams, the No. 1 team in CIF Division 4A, are 2-0 in their debut season in the Frontier League.
