Santa Barbara High girls volleyball coach John Gannon said it felt like a hair dryer blowing in your face when his team got out of the car at Westlake High on Tuesday.
The Dons didn’t let the hot weather or a taller Westlake team get to them as they scored a 26-24, 25-14, 26-28, 25-15 non-league victory.
“We were super balanced,” said Gannon. “They were a bigger team, but we dug them and used our ball control.”
Dane Miller played solid in the back row, picking up 20 digs and starting the offense with her accurate passing. Setter Lexi Rottman handed out 50 assists.
Caroline Anderson was a force in the middle, hammering seven kills and blocking five balls. Jackie Starnes added nine kills and played consistent defense, said Gannon.
The Dons play their first home match on Thursday against Oxnard.
