Gabi Montes De Oca and Emily Saito continued their strong play together for Carpinteria’s girls tennis team, sweeping three sets in Wednesday’s 12-6 non-league victory over Laguna Blanca.
The Warriors won six-of-nine doubles sets altogether as Merissa Souza won sets with two different partners. Makenna Pike and Elie Morgan added two more wins.
The match was close and the Warriors did not clinch until the third round.
“I was not too happy with how we started,” said Warriors head coach Charles Bryant. “We had a poor warmup and it carried over to the match. I was impressed however with our last round. We finally settled in and were able to play well.”
Kelsie Bryant swept three sets to improve her season’s win-loss record to 16-0.
Carpinteria, the two-time defending CIF Division-5 champion, is 4-2-1 on the season.
