Bella Vigna was 12 strokes better than her next teammate on Tuesday and the Chargers needed every one as Dos Pueblos edged San Marcos 240-241 at La Cumbre Country Club in a Channel League match.
Vigna’s one-over 37 was seven strokes lower than San Marcos freshman Mallory Sestak, whose 44 led the Royals.
“Of course it’s a bummer to be so close to a victory and come up a few strokes short, but our team shows tremendous potential and is really young,” said Royals head coach Sarah Ashton. “We see this as a positive sign of good things to come and I’m proud of how our girls played today.”
It was the first league loss for San Marcos (10-2, 2-1), which plays Ventura next Tuesday.
Defending individual league champion Megan Caird gave the Chargers their second lowest score with a 49. Julia Forster’s 50 and a 52 from both Jamie Sharpe and Miraya Ramirez gave Dos Pueblos 240.
The Chargers take sole possession of first place with the victory at 3-0.
