San Marcos’ girls golf team suffered its first loss of the season on Thursday, falling to Nipomo at Cypress Ridge. The Royals did best Arroyo Grande in the three-team meet.
Nipomo’s Cynthia Davis carded an even-par 36 to lead the Titans. Nipomo’s team score was 228 to San Marcos’ 242. Arroyo Grande scored 250.
San Marcos freshman Mallory Sestak has been the Royals’ low scorer in each of her first three high school matches. On Thursday, Sestak’s 44 led the Royals. Lauren Pitchford (48) and MacKenzie McBride (49) also broke 50.
“The course was in excellent shape, but the greens were tricky and different from what we are used to,” said Royals head coach Sarah Ashton. “We had some opportunities that we didn’t capitalize on as much as we had hoped, but we put in a solid effort and were proud of our team score overall. Cypress is a course that only one of the girls had played before.”
San Marcos (3-1) plays again on Monday at Alisal Ranch in Santa Ynez’s Pirate Invitational.
