Westmont’s women’s volleyball team dropped its first two matches at the Biola Volleyball/Red Lion-Anaheim Summer Slam Tournament on Thursday, falling to Rocky Mountain and then Southern Oregon University.
The Warriors stretched both teams to five sets before coming up just short. Game scores against Rocky Mountain, ranked No. 17 in the NAIA, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7. The Warriors lost to Southern Oregon 25-21, 19-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-11.
Rocky Mountain’s 17 blocks keyed its victory, leading to a .087 hitting percentage from Westmont.
The Warriors’ offense was led by senior Madison Serrano who finished with a team high of 20 kills while freshman Taylor Beckman was next in line with 12 kills. The defense was spurred by Kami Troesh who capped the game off with 20 digs and three aces.
Westmont completes tournament play with two matches on Friday versus Montana Tech at 4 p.m. followed by Concordia (Ore.) at 8 p.m.
