Local volleyball players Anika Wilson and Cassidy Drury-Pullen have been invited to compete in an International Children’s Games sand volleyball tournament in New York City, Aug. 9-10.
Wilson and Drury-Pullen are members of the Los Angeles ICG delegation, which makes up part of the West Zone team at the Games at Brooklyn Bridge Park. The domestic tournament will include four zonal squads of up to five pairs and a team from the host New York Metropolitan District.
Wilson is entering her senior year and Drury-Pullen is going to be a sophomore at San Marcos High. They will be playing with different partners in New York.
Wilson, who holds a AAA rating on the beach, also has been invited to play for a U.S. sand team in an international competition on the island of St.Barthelemy in the French West Indies. The U.S. squad will compete against France, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and teams from other Caribbean Islands.
Wilson recently won the prestigious Pan Pacific Beach Volleyball Championship and placed fourth in the USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Championships.
Drury-Pullen won a silver medal in the Bronze Division at the USAV Beach High Performance Championships and placed third at the AAU Jr. Olympics for club teams.
