San Luis Obispo’s Mitchell Martin won his second-straight Santa Barbara Golf Classic – this time with partner Cole Nygren – at Santa Barbara Golf Club on Sunday.

The two-day tournament saw Martin and Nygren record a round of 63 on Saturday and a 62 on Sunday. Being able to better their round by one was the difference as Brett Patton and Steven Lam finished a single stroke behind in second place.

John Gilles and Brandon Gama came in third place, while 12-time champions Steve Lass and John Pate finished fourth.

Paul Smith and Tom Volz were leading after the first round thanks to a 62 on Saturday. A 68 on Sunday pushed them back to fifth place.

Martin, a soon-to-be sophomore at Cal Poly, won last year with Reilly McMahon. This year’s partner, Nygren, is also a Cal Poly golfer.

The Santa Barbara Classic is a best-ball team format, held annually on Fiesta Weekend. Seventy teams participated in four flights this year.

Shawn Stuerman and Jim Ryan won the B Flight, Frank Kerby and Eddie Williams championed the C Flight, while Brian Baumgartner and Clay Holdren were the best of the D Flight.
