Westmont Volleyball Coach Patti Cook has announced the addition of three incoming freshman to her roster for the 2014 season – Taylor Beckham of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Lindsay Paulo of Riverside and Mila Maricic of Harbor City.
“I am thrilled to have this strong group of freshmen joining us,” said Cook. “They are an athletic class who has succeeded on the court and in the classroom and bring a high level of volleyball to an already solid group of returners.
“I know each of them have high expectations for what they want to accomplish during their time here at Westmont,” continued Cook. “They are both highly competitive and personable so I anticipate that they will hit the ground running when they join us in the fall.”
Beckham (5-10), a four-year varsity player at Lake Oswego High School, is a two-time All-Oregon and four-time all-league selection that brings experience playing at nearly every position. She played at middle blocker as a freshman and sophomore, moved to outside hitter as a junior and added setting to her repertoire as a senior.
As a club player for the Oregon Junior Volleyball Academy (OJVA) in Beaverton, Beckham played at outside hitter, right side hitter and libero. During her junior year, Beckham’s OJVA team placed 13th in the 18-open division at nationals.
Paulo attended Riverside Poly High School where she was a three-year varsity play. Paulo, a 5-10 outside and right side hitter, was named the All-Inland Valley League Most Valuable Player in her senior year.
While playing for Club West Volleyball, Paulo’s 16-America level team claimed the silver medal at junior nationals.
A four-year varsity player at San Pedro High School, Maricic was named the team’s MVP in her junior season. Maricic is a middle blocker and a four-year honor roll student.
Maricic has also played volleyball for the Mizuno Long Beach Volleyball Club for the past six years.
Westmont will open the 2014 season on Monday, August 18, when they play Viterbo (Wis.) at Biola. The Warriors’ first home game will be on Tuesday, September 2 against La Sierra.
