Goleta Valley Girls Softball Association’s 10-under Thunder Gold All-Stars placed second at the Central California Amateur Softball Association Championships, July 5-6, in Clovis.
The Thunder defeated Central Valley Intensity 8-0, Santa Maria Bomb Squad 6-5, and Clovis Bullets 17-0 before losing to Orcutt Sparks 6-3 in the Championship game. Their second-place finish qualifies them for a spot in the ASA Western Nationals to be held during the last week of July in Roseville.
The team was led by its two pitchers, Allie Fryklund and Kaylee Ratelle. Fryklund pitched two shut-outs while Ratelle was stellar in the win over Santa Maria, striking out nine while only allowing two earned runs over seven innings.
Offensively, the Thunder were led by Bella Robinson, who went 10-13 for a .769 average during the tournament. The defense was headed up by Katana Anderson-Morris at shortstop and Alyssa Perez behind the plate.
