Jeremiah Radel and Kelly Kosmo were victorious at the Goleta Beach Triathlon on Sunday in the long-course races. The short-course overall winner was Kyle Visin, who topped defending champion Carl Parker by 55 seconds.
Radel turned in a balanced performance, winning in one hour, 56 minutes and two seconds. He was the third-fastest swimmer, and sixth-fastest in both the bike and run sections. Radel, 30, beat out second-place finisher Cuyler Gabriel, 17, by one minute and 44 seconds.
Jason Engel, Matthew Trost and Demetrios Papadopou filled out the top five.
The Goleta Beach Triathlon, in its fourth year, features a 1-mile ocean swim, a 22-mile bike ride, and a five-mile run for its long course. Its sprint course is scaled back to a 1/4 mile swim, 11-mile bike, and 2.5-mile run.
American Whalen, in ninth overall, was the women’s short-course champion in a time of 1:01.57.
Visin’s winning time was 51:17, followed by Parker’s 52:12, and Tyler Stover’s 55:57.
