A berth in the National Baseball Congress World Series is at stake in this weekend’s Rawlings California Cup tournament.
The eight-team tournament is taking place Thursday through Sunday at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium and in Santa Maria. Four teams will play a round-robin format at each venue. The Santa Maria pool will consist of the Santa Maria Packers, San Francisco Seals, California Wahoos and Team Berkowitz. The Foresters will be joined by the Conejo Oaks, South Bay Saints and Santa Barbara Grizzlies in the pool at UCSB.
The two pool winners will meet for the championship and a trip to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan., on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Uyesaka Stadium.
The Foresters are seeking their 20th straight trip to the World Series. They’ve won the championship four times.
