Virginia Tech hurler Jon Woodcock struck out 11 in six innings and Dave Graybill hit a two-run double, leading the Santa Barbara Foresters to a 3-2 win over the MLB Barons in the California Collegiate League opener on Tueday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
Woodcock allowed just three hits and one walk in a dominant six innings of work. He was relieved by SBCC’s Cody Van Aken. Van Aken gave up two runs on a homer, triple and a single in the ninth before striking out two Barons to end the game and pick up the save.
Jeremy Montalbano (Texas) hit a towering double into the left-enter field gap to score Dillon Dobson (Appalachian State) for the Foresters first run
Third basemen Bret Boswell (Texas) continued the Foresters late-game offensive surge with a monster triple to left center. Montalbano drew and Graybill hit a laser to right-center field, scoring both Boswell and Montalbano before getting thrown out at third base.
