Stamatia Scarvelis of Dos Pueblos qualified first in the shot put and discus at the CIF State Track and Field Championship on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis.
Scarvelis, seeking her third straight shot put title, threw 52-1.75 on her second of three throws during qualifying for Saturday’s finals. She opened with a 50-2.75 and fouled on her third throw. Mackenna Howard of Los Alamitos is the No. 2 qualifier with a mark of 46-3.50.
In the discus, Scarvelis leads the field with a qualifying throw of 158-11. Kendall Mader of Newbury Park is second at 145-8.
There was no qualifying race in the 3200, where DP’s Addi Zerrenner is the No. 3 qualifier. Her time of 10:15.50 trails Bethan Knights of Northwood (9:54.89) and Destiny Collins of Great Oak (10:14.33).
The 3200 final is scheduled for 8:46 p.m. on Saturday.
Scarvelis competes in the discus final at 4:30 and the shot put final at 6:30 p.m.
