The Santa Barbara Sharks, an Under-12 baseball team, finished seventh out of 104 teams at the prestigious Cooperstown Dream Park Tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y.
The Sharks went 6-0 in pool play and were seeded 12th for the knockout phase of the tournament. They beat Team Avalanche from Winter Haven, Fla., 2-0, in a rain-delayed playoff game that didn’t finish until 11 p.m.
The Sharks returned to the field the next morning and outlasted the Cincinnati Riverbats, 10-8.
In the quarterfinals, the Sharks lost to highly ranked Team Select out of Pompano Beach Fla. Team Select eventually made it to the finals.
The Sharks beat teams from all over the country in pool play. They started with 12-0 win over the On-Deck Swingman from North Carolina and then blanked the Gameday Buffaloes from Colorado 15-0 on Day 1.
Day 2 included wins over the Wasco Warriors from Illinois (14-9) and a 7-4 win over Weston Hawks Select team out of Florida.
On Day 3, the Sharks defeated the Blue Claws from Pontchartrain, La., 10-9, and the West Boyton Florida Cobras 12-7.
Members of the Santa Barbara Sharks are: Spencer Lee, Gabe Arteaga, Nico Martinez, Isaac Villarreal, Brent Hyman, Jack Winterbauer, Josh Swanson, Nate Feldhaus, Anthony Martinez, Jacob Galindo, Diego Sandoval and Jackson Haskell. Tony Sandoval is the manager and Dan Feldhaus and Tony Winterbauer are the coaches.
