Sophomore Zachary Torra threw a five-hitter, leading Santa Ynez to a 2-0 win over Village Christian for the CIF Division 5 baseball championship on Saturday at UC Riverside.
It is the school’s first CIF baseball title.
Jacob Pritchard drove in Colby Barrick in the first inning and that was all Torra would need. He struck out six and didn’t walk a batter in a complete-game performance that gave him an 11-0 season record.
The top-seeded Pirates tacked on their second run in the fourth inning. Alex Knightley and Kyle von Tillow singled and Barrick knocked in pinch runner Adam McBeth.
Santa Ynez posted an amazing 29-1 record. Village Christian finished at 22-9.
