Kento Perera ended a spectacular freshman season at San Marcos by advancing to the quarterfinals of the CIF Individual Tennis Tournament on Thursday.
Perera rallied from a first-set loss and outlasted Tanner Smith of Los Alamitos, 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-1 at the Whittier Narrows Tennis facility. Smith is the son of USC coach Peter Smith.
Perera had to pull out of the quarterfinals due to a prior commitment
Perera won the Channel League singles title and finished the season with a 55-2 record.
