The Foresters overcame five errors and the loss of their starting pitcher and defeated the MLB Academy Barons, 7-3, to sweep the three-game California Collegiate League series on Thursday at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
It was the fifth straight win for Santa Barbara.
The Foresters lost starter Brandon Quintero after he took a line drive off his wrist in the first inning. Cody Van Aiken came in and pitched a solid 6.2 innings. He struck out nine and picked up the win.
Sant Barbara jumped on the Barons in the first inning with four runs. They added two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth for a 7-0 lead. Jaylin Davis and Grant Davis each had three hits to spark the offense.
The Barons showed some life in the seventh inning. Catcher Lester Salcedo hit a double down the left field line. The Foresters, however, picked him off at second.
