A ninth-inning rally fell short, and the Foresters dropped a 4-3 decision against the Southern Cal Catch in a California Collegiate League baseball game on Sunday at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.
Down 4-2 entering the ninth inning, the Foresters put two runners on base with two outs. Cole Atwood hit an infield single and Bret Boswell reached base on an error Dillon Dobson came up and lined the first pitch into right field, bringing Atwood home to make it 4-3. But Santa Barbara couldn’t come up with another big hit and suffered its third loss of the season.
The Foresters are 11-3 overall and 9-3 in the CCL.
The Catch scored all four runs off Foresters starter Kenny Chapman.
In the first inning, Cooper Esmay smashed an RBI double over the right fielder’s head and Scott Gillespie drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Chapman struck out Sam Thorne with the bases loaded to prevent further damage.
With a pair of doubles by Chance Gusbeth and Cameron Bishop pushed the Catch lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, Esmay walked, stole second and came home on a double by Perry Rigby to go ahead 4-0.
Santa Barbara got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Boswell. The Foresters made it 4-2 in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Colin Yellich.
