Geoffrey Acheampong scored two second-half goals, and the Santa Barbara Soccer Club’s boys Under-18 team won its second pool-play match at the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals, beating BNSC Celtic of Idaho, 3-1, on Tuesday in Albuquerque, N.M.
Santa Barbara rallied from a 1-0 deficit, as Tyson Fox of BNSC scored in the 24th minute of the first half. Miguel Padron started Santa Barbara’s comeback with a goal in the 50th minute. It was his third goal of the tournament.
Acheampong then went on the attack and scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute and an insurance goal in the 75th.
Acheampong also has three goals in two tournament games. The Cate School star recently gave a verbal commitment to UCSB.
The U18s finish pool play against winless Legends FC of Southern California.
The SBSC Boys U16 White rebounded from their opening tie and blanked Alum Rock Impact of Northern California, 3-0.
Brandon Sanchez, Jules Pasco and Dennis Cole scored for Santa Barbara, the two-time defending USYS National Champions.
The U16s play Crossfire Premier 97 in their final pool-play match.
