UCSB’s Allie Ariniello was recognized at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon on Monday as the Gauchos’ Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Ariniello, a women’s soccer player, holds a 3.81 GPA while studying molecular and cellular biology. Her current academic courses include developmental nueral biology and stem cell biology. She was a perennial All-Academic Big West Conference selection and, as a senior, was named the conference’s overall Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Her character led her to be a nominee for Big West Women of the Year. Ariniello is pursuing medical school following graduation from UCSB in June.

The Carlsbad native played in 56 career games in four years at UCSB, including starting all 19 games as a senior when she shared the team-lead in goals scored and points.

“I truly couldn’t have done this without the love and support from my family and friends, and the support of my coaches as well, for believing in me to get it done on the soccer field and in the classroom,” Ariniello said.

Joining Ariniello at the luncheon were UCSB head coach Paul Stumpf and assistant coach Jordan Calhoun.
