Cate won the first and third rounds of Monday’s CIF quarterfinal match against Garden Grove, getting enough sets to secure the 11-7 victory.
The Rams advance to Wednesday’s semifinals.
Cate took a 4-2 lead after the first round and held that lead in the second round as the two schools split 3-3. Heading into the final round with a 7-5 advantage, the Rams got two points in singles from Jason Xiao and Kevin Ha, and two more from the doubles teams of Michael Revord/Christian Herman and Jack Hoover/Brendan Lokre.
Xiao and Ha were each 3-0 on the day. The doubles teams both went 2-1.
Cate (16-5) is making its second straight appearance in the semifinals.
