Rachelle Visser added a third and fourth to her medal haul on Saturday, leading SBCC’s swimming team to 12th place in the CCCAA State Women’s Swimming Championships at East L.A. College.
Visser took third in the 100 butterfly (58.65) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (59.16). With two thirds and a fourth, she was the 10th-highest women’s scorer with 47 points.
Diablo Valley won the three-day meet with 414 points and Orange Coast was second at 400.
In their first year of competition, the Vaqueros placed 12th out of 36 schools with 111 points. They were the third WSC finisher behind No. 10 Bakersfield and No. 11 Cuesta, who beat SBCC by just five points.
Santa Barbara placed 11th in the 400 free relay in 3:42.81, thanks to a blazing final leg by Visser. The Vaqueros were seventh in the consolation final until Visser turned in a 52.5 split to move them up to third in the heat and 11th overall.
“We swam great all weekend,” said coach Chuckie Roth. “It was an awesome end to a great beginning.”
The Vaqueros will field their first women’s water polo team in September of 2014.
