Dos Pueblos and San Marcos split their Channel League swim dual meet on Wednesday, the Chargers taking the boys competition, 121-50, and the Royal girls winning, 99-86, to stay undefeated on the season.
Dos Pueblos coach Chris Parish had swimmers doing newer events in the meet. Walker Bell took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:44.99), Alex Valente won Walker’s specialty, the 500 free (4:52.66), and Adam Dai captured the 200 IM (2:12.29) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.46).
George Kuesis of San Marcos had an impressive win in the 100 butterfly, winning in 57.48.
There were several good marks in the girls meet. San Marcos set four school records and DP swimmers posted three automatic CIF times.
DP’s Shannon Cleary won the 50 and 100 freestyles in CIF times of 2422 and 52.66. Maelyn Adornetto recorded a CIF time (1:06.11) in winning the 100 breast. She also swam the 200 IM in 2:08.47.
Grace Pizzinat of San Marcos set a school record in the 100 back with a time of 1:02.66. She finished second behind DP’s Courtney Nuttall (1:00.10)
“We swam very well today and we fortunate to win the swim meet,” San Marcos coach Chuckie Roth said. “Dos Pueblos swam very fast and truly pushed us. The meet came down to the 200 free relay. We were lucky to win by .28 of a second, while the B team was able to capture third by .09 of a second. Both of these wins created a big lead.”
The Royals’ team of Madeline Kriz, Pizzinat, Dasha Depew and Paige Hauschild won the 200 free relay in a school-record 1:39.69. DP’s quartet of Reagan Eikert, Nicole Berari, Cassandra Barkhorn and Cleary touched at 1:39.97.The San Marcos B squad edged DP for third, 1:46.47 to 1:46.58.
The team of Pizzinat, Amanda Hayes, Olivia Smith and Hauschild got the Royals off to a good start by winning the 200 medley relay in a school record of 1:51.18.
The 400 relay team (Kriz, Depew, Hauschild, Smith) broke a school mark that has held since 1983 with a time of 3:35.52. But it wasn’t fast enough to beat the DP team of Berari, Eikert, Adornetto and Cleary. They won it in 3:34.42.
In individual events for the Royals, Depew was a double winner, leading a sweep in the 200 free (1:54.31) and taking the 500 free (5:05.92). Smith captured the 100 fly (58.37) and finished a close second behind Cleary in the 50 free (24.45). Hauschild clocked 53.39 for second place in the 100 free.
