SFT: Chargers beat Cougars for outright league title

Dos Pueblos’ Lani Evans earned the win in the circle and recorded a double and triple at the plate.

 

Monica Salas’ RBI single in the seventh inning scored Lani Evans and  turned out to be the winning run in Dos Pueblos’ 6-5 victory over Ventura on Thursday that clinched the Chargers’ Channel League championship.

Dos Pueblos finishes atop the league standings with a 10-2 record while Ventura and Buena tie for second place at 8-4.

The Chargers were behind 4-3 heading into the  fifth inning but scored one run in each of the final three innings to take the lead. Ady Willett recorded a hit and came around the basepaths to score in the sixth. Evans scored on Salas’ RBI in the seventh after doubling.

Evans added an RBI triple to score Madison Buie in the fifth inning and earned her 14th win of the season in the circle. Evans struck out nine. Chargers head coach Jon Uyesaka was impressed most by her performance in the bottom of the seventh inning closing out the Cougars.

Dos Pueblos (20-6) will learn its CIF draw on Saturday. As league champions, the Chargers will have a home game in the first round next Tuesday.
