Pitching depth proved to be the difference in Santa Barbara High’s 12-5 baseball loss to Simi Valley in the final game of the Chatsworth Tournament on Saturday.
Holding a 5-0 lead after the fourth inning, the Dons gave up four runs in each of the final three innings.
Trevor Moropoulos threw three shutout innings after picking up the win in Friday’s extra-inning Channel League game against Buena. He threw 55 pitches before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Simi Valley (14-11) roughed up the Santa Barbara relievers. The Pioneers took the lead in the sixth on a three-run triple by Robert Stephan.
“This game came down to pitching depth,” said Dons’ pitching coach Mike Cooney. “Both teams played two tough league games this week but Simi had more strength in the bullpen.”
Skyler Sabado and Bryce Morison led the Santa Barbara offense. Sabado had two singles and drove in three runs, while Morison doubled, singled and had a RBI.
Santa Barbara (15-9) hosts San Marcos on Tuesday.
