Dos Pueblos got a clutch pitching performance form Joshua Tedeschi and Michael Boelter doubled in two runs in the fifth inning to give the Chargers a 3-1 win at Ventura, setting up a Channel League baseball title showdown Wednesday at Buena.
“It will be their senior day and they will be fired up to try and take away our run at a three-peat,” DP coach Nick Katzenstein said of the Bulldogs. “Our two league losses have both come from Buena and and we know that we will have a tough challenge. Our guys are prepared and ready for battle. Senior Daniel Buratto will be on the hill to face Buena for the first time this season.
“It’s bound to be a classic Channel League show down.”
Dos Pueblos enters the game with an 8-2 record while Buena is 8-3.
On Tuesday, Tedeschi went six innings, allowing one run, four hits and three walks, while striking out four. Erik Olson pitched the seventh to pick up the save.
“Joshua Tedeschi pitched well for the Chargers today,” Katzenstein said. “He also fielded his position, which spoiled some opportunities for Ventura.”
Ventura scored in the first inning. The Cougars got a lead-off walk, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single by Keaton Garibaldi.
Ventura got their lead off guy aboard again in the second but Tedeschi got the next batter to hit into a double play. Chargers third baseman Luke Coffey started another double play in the fourth inning.
Tedeschi pitched out of a jam in the sixth, getting Ventura’s No. 4 hitter to fly out to right to end the inning.
Buratto singled in Quinn Peacock for DP’s first run in the third inning.
The Chargers took the lead in the fifth. Coffey doubled down the left-field line and Buratto drew a walk. A missed sacrifice fly led to Coffey being throw out at third. A successful double steal put runners at second and third with two outs and Boelter followed with a double to right.
