Cate broke a scoreless game in the sixth inning and freshman Joel Revo pitched two strong innings of relief, as the Rams blanked Thacher, 3-0, to stay unbeaten in the Condor League.
Cate hit the ball hard throughout the game, but couldn’t get on the scoreboard until the sixth.
Dean Smith dropped a single in right field to score pinch runner Max Vasquez for the first run. Nik Pajouh blasted a double to left to bring in Smith and Chris Oh singled in Pajouh for the third run.
“What a funky game,” Cate assistant coach Dave Soto said. “We hit the ball hard all over the field all game, but found ourselves in a tight battle late. I’m proud of the resilience we showed. It can be frustrating to play well and have nothing to show for it. We kept knocking on the door and finally cashed in. Give credit to Thacher. They stepped up in a big way on defense and played very well. In the end, we’re happy to stay in control of the Condor League.”
Humza Khurshid pitched five strong innings for Cate (9-4). He struck out seven Toads, and surrendered just two hits.
The Rams are back in action on Saturday, May 10 on the road against Ojai Valley School.
