Cate was knocked out in the second round of the CIF Division 7 baseball playoffs by Animo Leadership, 6-3.
The Rams jumped out to 3-0, but the Aztecs roared back behind the hitting of Daniel Colmenero. He had three hits and drove in four runs. Animo scored twice in the fifth inning and four times in the sixth.
Freshman Joel Revo got the start on the mound for Cate. He went 5.1 innings and struck out four batters. Humza Khurshid finished the game for the Rams (10-8).
The Rams played good defense throughout the game, highlighted by a couple nice stops in the infield by Carlos Fairbanks and Khurshid, said assistant coach Dave Soto.
“All year long, we have asked our guys for heart and effort; they gave us great amounts of both in this game,” Soto said. “I thought we played really hard all game and kept with a very talented and potent lineup. It is never fun to see a season end, but I’m proud of the effort our guys gave until the final out. We say goodbye to a group of seniors that all had great careers in a Cate uniform.”
