Carpinteria’s Mo Sanchez pitched a complete game, but the Warriors came out on the losing end of a 4-1 decision against Windward in a first-round game of the CIF Division 6 baseball playoffs on Thursday.
Windward took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, added two runs in the third and then an important insurance run in the fourth.
The Warriors scored their lone run in the fourth as Kevin Stein led off with a double, was balked to third and came home on a single by Sal Delgado. Stein finished 2-3 to pace the offense and he threw out consecutive runners attempting to steal in the second inning to minimize the Wildcat threat.
“The Wildcats applied varieties of pressure and the Warriors showed early nerves,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “By the time we settled in, there was too much ground to make up. The difference seemed to be that they connected hits to walks or errors. Our hits and walks were separate and the lucky bounce was absent.”
Carpinteria finishes the season with an 11-12 record.
