Carpinteria gave up three runs in the sixth inning and suffered a 4-3 baseball loss at Malibu in a battle between Frontier League leaders.
The loss drops the Warriors (5-4) into third place. They need to beat Malibu (6-3) at home on Thursday to stay in third and earn a CIF playoff spot.
Carpinteria (10-11 overall) scored two runs in the first inning. Duncan Gordon doubled in Javier Jasso and then scored on a wild pitch. Connor Kelsey drove in Kevin Stein in the fourth to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead.
Gordon went 2-for-4 and Nick Walker was 2-3 for the Warriors.
