GLF: Ventura wins CIF Divisional, Royals barely miss out

Battling 30 mph gusts at Cypress Ridge Golf Course, Ventura bested the field at Monday’s CIF Central Coast Divisional in Lompoc.

The Cougars, led by Jacob Johnson’s 76, had all five players at 82 or under and won the CIF Divisional totaling 397.

Ventura and Oaks Christian were the only schools to score less than 400. Oaks Christian came in at 399 and succeeded with balance as well. The Lions were led by Peter Griffith’s 75 and their throwout score was 86.

San Marcos finished third at 402 but will not advance to next week’s SCGA qualifier with Ventura and Oaks. Freshman Sam Metzger recorded a 78 to lead the Royals, co-Channel League champions. Niels Andersen and Chris Wong posted 80s. Ethan Habecker (81) and Bennett Reichard (83) filled out the scorecard.

Dos Pueblos, who shared the Channel League title with the Royals, tied for sixth with Rio Mesa. Both teams recorded a cumulative 420. Michael Nam and Grant Amerson matched each for the team lead at 81.
