SBCC’s Felix Mory and Blake McPherson took second and third in the CCCAA Southern Cal Men’s Golf Championships on Monday at par-71 StoneRidge CC in Poway.
Mory fired a season-low 4-under 67 in the first round and added a 71 in the afternoon for a 138. McPherson shot 70 and 73 for a 1-over 143. Sydney Wolf of Canyons was the medalist, shooting two rounds of 3-under 68.
Mory, a freshman from France, and McPherson, a sophomore from Taft, both qualified for the State Championships, which will be held on May 12 at The Victoria Club in Riverside. They were named first-team All-Southern California, one week after receiving first-team All-WSC honors.
WSC champion Canyons topped the 10-team field with 723 strokes (13-over par). Riverside got the other State berth by finishing second at 738. Orange Coast (743) was third and the Vaqueros took fourth at 751.
“We played pretty good the first 18 and not so well in the second round,” said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. “It was a great day for Felix and Blake. I was proud of our effort all year, we just didn’t get it done in the final round.”
