Dos Pueblos senior Grant Amerson overcame teammate Michael Nam and San Marcos’ Niels Andersen on Tuesday to win the Channel League Individual Tournament by one stroke at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai.
Amerson began the day one shot back of Nam and Andersen. His score of 73 in the second round gave him a winning two-day total of 146.
The title wasn’t decided until the final hole. With Amerson holding a slim lead, Andersen sank a 35-foot putt to keep the pressure on Amerson.
Needing to two-putt from 12-feet out, Amerson left himself a four-footer for the win. A miss would force a playoff.
But Amerson made the shot to secure the victory.
Seventeen players played in the second round after the orginial field of 30 was cut. The second day featured winds in the 20-to-30 MPH range.
Santa Barbara High’s Brandon Crane, Buena’s Brian Wipf, Ventura’s Gavin Spaak, and San Marcos’ Sam Metzger will join the top three at next week’s CIF Individual Regional on Monday at River Ridge Golf Course.
