Laguna Blanca’s athletic director Mike Biermann and Cate School’s student-athlete Iman Fardghassemi have been recognized by the CIF Southern Section as “Champions of Character” and will be honored at a special ceremony onboard the Queen Mary in September.
The 10th Annual Dr. Jim Staunton Champions for Character Award goes to student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and schools that compete with the highest degree of character while winning or losing.
“It is humbling to read the accomplishments of our honorees,” said CIF-SS Commissioner of Athletics Rob Wigod in a statement. “We are honored to recognize these outstanding individuals. They exemplify our commitment to sportsmanship, character, and to Pursuing Victory with Honor.”
Fardghassemi is one of 14 student-athletes recognized from nearly 600 Southern Section schools. The Cate junior plays on the varsity football, soccer and track & field teams.
Biermann, who became athletic director at Laguna Blanca in 2003, is one of six administrators spotlighted throughout the Southern Section.
