Dos Pueblos and Westlake slugged it out for more than three hours in hot, windy conditions, and the host Warriors pulled out a 10-8 decision in a non-league boys tennis match between CIF Division 1 top-ten teams on Wednesday.
Westlake (17-0, ranked 10th in Division 1) dominated in singles, taking eight of nine sets.
“They’re a full loaded team with five-star and three-star recruits,” said DP coach Liz Frech, whose team is 16-3 ranked No. 8. “Patrick Corpuz gave us our lone set (6-0), but he lost two tight sets.”
In doubles, the Chargers duo of Mason Casady and Joshua Wang continued to dominate as they swept their three sets to raise their season record to 47-1. Andrew Tufenkian and Miles Baldwin also swept on Wednesday. Greg Steigerwald and Alex Lang went 1-2, with the two losses going nearly 90 minutes and a hour long.
“I am proud that our team stayed tough and fought through every set,” Frech said. “Each player gave everything he had. This match is such great preparation for the Channel League Tournament.”
The Chargers will host the league individual tourney on Monday.
