Buckley broke a tie in the second round and held off Cate, 10-8, in a non-league boys tennis match between top-10 teams.
Buckley, ranked 10th in CIF Division 3, won four sets to take a 7-5 lead. The teams split the final six sets.
Jason Xiao went 3-0 and didn’t lose a game for Cate, the No. 3 team in Division 5. Kevin Ha also picked up three wins on the afternoon (6-1, 6-2, 6-1).
In doubles, Michael Revord and Jack Hoover earned two wins for the Rams, losing only to the Griffins’ No. 1 doubles team.
Cate is 9-5 on the season.
