Westmont’s Stratman, Barnard capture Ojai singles titles

Westmont tennis players Lauren Stratman and Joshua Barnard captured singles titles in the Independent College Division at the 114th Ojai Invitational Tournament on Sunday.

Stratman, a sophomore out of Dos Pueblos High, rallied from a first-set loss and defeated Crystal Kim of Claremont McKenna Scripps Colleges, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, for the women’s championship. Stratman won five matches in the tournament and recorded five 6-0 sets.

Barnard, a junior, won the men’s title with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Rohan Shankar of Claremont McKenna Scripps.

In the semifinals, Barnard pulled out a tough three-set match against Alexander Brenner of CMS, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

In doubles, sisters Lauren and Kate Stratman advanced to women’s semifinals and fell to La Verne’s Jeanette Losaria and Laina Matsuda, 6-2, 6-4.
