Alex Heuchert ran under four minutes in the 1500 meters and placed fourth in the Coast Classic on Friday, a prestigious men’s track and field meet at Orange Coast Classic that included four-year school Vanguard.
Heuchert, a freshman from San Marcos High, ran 3:59.89. Bas van Leersum was second in the 110 hurdles (16.19) and sixth in the 400 (50.18). Scott Santella was third in the javelin (45.83m) while Philip Skopnik was sixth in the shot put (11.32m) and discus (33.41m, PR).
Cameo Goree returned from injury and took fourth in the 200 at 23.08.
“It was good to have Cameo back out in action and I’m really happy for Alex to dip under the 4:00 barrier in the 1500,” said coach Scott Fickerson.
The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Prelims on April 18 at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita. All field events at the prelims will be finals.
