The San Marcos girls 200 medley relay team set a school record, and the Royals won their first Channel League meet, 104-69, over Ventura on Wednesday.
The team of Maddie Kriz, Amanda Hayes, Olivia Smith and Paige Hauschild clocked 1:53.00 and took first place. The Royals won three relays, all in CIF consideration times.
Hayes won two individual events, taking the 100 breast and 200 IM. Smith also was a double winner in the 100 fly and 50 free.
Coach Chuckie Roth noted several break-out swims by Brittany Prentice (third in 100 fly), Hauschild (second in 100 free) and Haile Johnson, with a personal best of 26.96 in the 50 free. He added that Grace Pizzinat, Kriz and Kuesis swam season bests in the 100 back.
The Royals improved their overall record to 4-0.
In the boys meet, Carter Boden took first place in diving (353.32 points) and Spencer Kemp captured the 50 freestyle (23.83) for the Royals, who lost the meet 127-52.
“Ventura was very tough and very fast,” said San Marcos coach Jeff Ashton. “I did think we swam well overall.
Ashton praised Brenden Ring, who recorded a personal best in the 200 IM.
