San Marcos hit the ball hard and put runners on base in every inning, but the Royals couldn’t come up with the clutch hit and dropped a 5-2 softball decision to Buena in a Channel League game on Thursday.
The Royals gave up two runs in the top of the first but came right back in the bottom half of the inning and tied the score. Stephanie Swann led off with a triple, Veronica Villarreal walked and Cara Christian followed with a double to score Swann and send Villarreal to third. Hailee Rios drove in Villarreal on a sacrifice fly to tie the score 2-2.
Buena reclaimed the lead in the third with a home run.
San Marcos falls to 8-10 and 1-5 in league; Buena is 8-5, 5-1
Rios kept the Buena bats for the next three innings but the Bulldogs capitalized on an error in the seventh to score two more runs.
