Lani Evans pitched nine innings of shutout softball, and Dos Pueblos scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Rio Mesa, 2-0, in the championship game of the PacView Tournament on Wednesday in Oxnard.
Evans earned her 10th win of the season by striking out 12, while allowing five hits and five walks. She was supported by a solid defensive effort. The Chargers didn’t commit an error in the extra-inning game.
The Chargers broke the scoreless deadlock when Kai Uyesaka reached first on a Rio Mesa error, went to third when Bailey King beat the throw on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch. Jade Sinskul hit the next pitch up the middle to drive in King.
King and Lauren Marmo each had two hits for top-ranked DP, which improved to 13-1.
