Dos Pueblos scored early and Lani Evans did the rest, holding Buena to one hit and blanking the Bulldogs 3-0 to give the Chargers sole possession of first place in the Channel League on Friday at DP.
“Lani Evans pitched a terrific one hitter,” DP coach Jon Uyesaka said. “Buena has a tough hitting team and she kept them off balance with a variety of pitches.”
Evans (11-3) struck out four and walked four in the complete-game shut out. She was supported by a defense that recorded 17 outs without an error.
Dos Pueblos (16-3), which lost at Buena on Tuesday, leads the league with a 7-1 record. Buena is at 6-2. There are four games to play.
The Chargers jumped on Buena’s Brooke Yanez for a run in the first and two in the second.
In the first, Evans and Kai Uyesaka walked and Jade Sinskul lined to right, scoring pinch-runner Melissa Spink (runner for Evans). Uyesaka tried to score from first but was thrown out at home.
In the second, Ali Milam led off with a double, Adison Willet singled and Bailey King walked to load the bases. Sam Sander hit a line drive to right, scoring Milam and Willett.
Willet finished with two hits and led the defense with four catches in center field.
Madison Buie robbed Buena of a hit when she charged a short fly ball to left field and made the catch.
