Dos Pueblos’ softball team rebounded from a 1-0 setback to Lakewood with an 8-2 victory over Kennedy on Saturday at the Thousand Oaks Invitational.
The Chargers were quieted by Lakewood in the first game. Lani Evans and Monica Salas reached base in the seventh inning without scoring, and that represented half of the Chargers’ hits in the game. It was just Dos Pueblos’ second loss of the season and first time the Chargers have been shut out.
“Lakewood is very underrated. They are the runner-up CIF finalist in division 2 last year and their only losses this year are to top ten division one teams,” reported Dos Pueblos head coach Jon Uyesaka. “We were right there with them the entire game. I am very proud of our girls.”
Maddie Pickett earned her fifth win of the season without a loss in the second game for pitching the final six innings.
“Madi pitched six terrific innings keeping the ball on the edges of the frame. She was strong under pressure with confidence in all her pitches,” Uyesaka said.
The Chargers smashed a pair of home runs against Kennedy. Jade Sinskul was first, clearing the center-field fence for a three-run shot in the fourth inning to score Salas and Kai Uyesaka. Alison Milam then connected for a two-run homer over the left-field fence with Sinskul on base.
Dos Pueblos (15-2, 6-0), ranked No. 1 in Division 4, returns to Channel League play with a game at Buena (9-6, 5-1) on Tuesday.
