San Marcos High School’s Varsity Girls Sand Volleyball team traveled south last Saturday for the official AAU Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL) tournament #4 at Dockweiler State Beach in El Segundo. San Marcos High School was undefeated against Notre Dame Academy and Marymount, and victorious against Valencia High School in an unofficial IBVL scrimmage.
San Marcos High School junior Anika Wilson and freshman Cassidy Drury-Pullen made up the #1 team for San Marcos. Wilson/Drury-Pullen beat Notre Dame Academy 2-0. The pair beat Valencia in two as well. The San Marcos team is now 7-1 for the season.
Isabel Bassi (Freshman) and Clare Holehouse (Senior) made up the #2 varsity team for San Marcos. Bassi/Holehouse beat Notre Dame’s squad in 3 games and defeated Valencia in the scrimmage. Bassi and Holehouse are undefeated this season.
Alex Seyle (Senior) and Andie O’Donnell (Senior) made up the San Marcos #3 Varsity team. Seyle/O’Donnell beat their opponents.
Marymount forfeited all matches leading to an automatic win for San Marcos.
The San Marcos Sand Volleyball team is coached by Erica Menzel-Downing and Steve Lough with the assistance of volunteer coach Kathy Gregory. The next San Marcos Varsity match is Saturday, April 26, 2014, at West Beach.
The Royals are currently ranked #5 out of 47 schools in the IBVL league.
The girls’ IBVL competes in three venues: Dockweiler State Beach, Huntington City Beach and West Beach in Santa Barbara. A full day of play with each school competing in two dual matches against non-division opponents. Each school fields three teams (pairs) and competes against their opponents in order of rank to determine the winner of each dual match. Each match is played in best of three format of two sets to 21 with the deciding set, if necessary, to 15.
