Carpinteria missed on several scoring opportunities and dropped a 5-1 decision at Santa Paula in a Frontier League baseball game.
The Warriors stranded 13 runners, as Cardinal starter Antonio Jimenez continually pitched out of jams and picked up the complete-game win.
Carpinteria (7-8, 2-1) picked up its only run in the third on a RBI single by Mo Sanchez. He drove in Jonah Spach, who led off with a single and stole second. Sanchez reached base four times with two hits and two walks.
Freshman David Martinez started for the Warriors and was chased by Santa Paula (3-10, 2-1) in the fifth. Freshman Sal Delgado relieved with 1 2/3 of scoreless baseball followed by lefty sophomore Diego Contreras who tossed a hitless sixth.
“The good news is that we had greatly improved at bats and many opportunities to score,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “The bad news, of course, is that we missed the opportunities.”
