Mo Sanchez pitched a complete-game shutout and figured in all of Carpinteria’s scoring in a 3-0 win over Villanova at John Calderwood Field.
Villanova was the home team for the game. the Wildcats couldn’t host the game on their diamond because of unsafe field conditions.
Sanchez led off the game with a smash through the right side and eventually scored on a first and third double steal.
In the third, Sanchez followed a lead-off walk to Jonah Spach with a two-strike home run. It was more than enough as Sanchez limited the Wildcats to just 3 hits, while the Warriors recorded 11 groundball outs behind him. Nick Walker was the only Warrior to collect 2 hits.
“The only thing that was unusual about the day was being the visitors at John Calderwood Field,” Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney said. “The team took their cue from the senior leadership that Mo Sanchez brought to the situation and adjusted without a hitch. In order for us to have a chance in these league games as the season progresses, our seniors will need to continue playing well.”
Carpinteria improves to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in league.
