Cate opened Condor League baseball play with a 7-1 win over Thacher on Wednesday.
Carlos Fairbanks and Humza Khurshid combined on a three-hitter, and Zach Ell and Ryan Baird paced the offense with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Baird doubled and Ben Swain hit a run-scoring triple. Khurshid also had two hits in his return from a hamstring injury
Chris Oh made the defensive play of the game, snagging a sinking line drive in left field and doubling up a Thacher base runner to the get Rams out of a jam.
Cate improves to 5-3 on the season.
“It’s always good to start league play with a win,” Cate assistant Dave Soto said. “It gets the ball rolling for us in what is going to be a very challenging league campaign. There are still areas we can improve but I think we will get there soon.”
