Sophomore Travis Craven came up big for the Dos Pueblos baseball team in a 3-1 non-league victory over Mira Costa on Monday at Westmont’s Russ Carr Field.
“He didn’t overpower anyone today but did keep them off balance and got them to swing at his pitches,” said DP coach Nick Katzenstein.
Craven, who began the season on the JV team, collected his second win of the season.
Dos Pueblos scored two runs in the first off hits by Dustin Demeter, Daniel Buratto, Nick Noggle and Michael Boelter. Noggle went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Boelter was 1-3 with a RBI.
Buratto drove in Quinn Peacock with the third run.
Jesse Speier pitched a 1-2-3 seventh inning to pick up his second save.
“This was a good win for us as we head into a tough matchup against top-ranked Harvard Westlake tomorrow at USC,” said Katzenstein. The game is at 7 p.m.
DP (7-8) returns to Channel League play Friday at home against Ventura.
