Cabrillo’s Carlos Gonzales drove home five runs in the Conquistadores’ 16-1 dismantling of Carpinteria on Saturday.
Duncan Gordon was 2-for-3 at the plate and scored Carpinteria’s one run on an RBI double by Salvador Delgado.
Cabrillo (9-3) scored in every inning but the fourth and has scored 43 runs against the Warriors this season in three games. After three-straight victories, it was the Warriors’ worst loss of the season.
“In the big picture, it was a disappointing step backwards for the team,” reported Warriors head coach Pat Cooney. “We have really been making some headway at practice and in games so we were looking forward to the chance to play a very good team. With 3 games next week, including a game at Cate and the Frontier League opener vs. Villanova, we need to flush this performance and get right back to work. Building confidence seems to be our key goal at this point.”
Cabrillo’s Oswaldo Medina picked up the victory on the mound, striking out eight batters in five innings.
The Warriors (4-5) play next on Tuesday at Cate.
